Tom rolls on into Semi’s

Australian Indoor Singles Day 2 results Perth Suns Tom Mitchell is the sole remaining West Australian as the Australian Indoor Singles reaches the exciting semi-final stages of competition after two days of play at Tweed Heads, NSW.
Mitchell has improved as the tournament has progressed. After his opening round 2-11 7-4 4-3 narrow win over Queensland’s Robert Wild on Monday he has continued to get better as he is now picking up the intricacies of the Tweed Heads Indoor surface. A solid 9-9 9-6 win over NSW’s Lee Stinson didn’t come without drama. Stinson held the two required shots on the last end of the second set before Mitchell played a great shot to turn up his own bowl and win the match. Mitchell was then at his best in the quarter final as he tackled Corey Wedlock from NSW. He came out on fire with pinpoint draw bowling and never let Wedlock get into the match securing a comprehensive 10-3 7-5 victory.
Mitchell now has the task of playing former New Zealand International Paul Girdler tomorrow at 9am WA Time – the match will be live streamed through the Bowls Australia website. Not only will Mitchell have to combat the International experience of Girdler but he will have to overcome a decided home ground and crowd advantage with Girdler being the Tweed Heads Bowls Manager sure to have some extra knowledge up his sleeve.
Fellow West Australians Noelene Abe and Linda Warburton were defeated in the last 16 of the Women’s Competition earlier today.
