Women’s Over 60’s Pairs Final Results Mosman Park’s Kerry Andersen and Linda Warburton are the 2017 State Over 60’s Women’s Pairs champions.
The defeated Noelene Abe (Corrigin) and Wendy Stower (Mosman Park) 16-10 in the final at Manning Bowling Club on Friday.
This title is remarkably the eighth Over 60’s title for Andersen and she is the only player male or female to win all four over 60’s state events – singles, pairs, triples and mixed pairs. In fact she has won them all twice!!
Andersen and Warburton’s successful campaign endured a difficult start as they squeezed through their section with three consecutive wins decided on the last end.
The second day was more comfortable before a great performance on the final day saw them win the tournament.
The formidable pair of Kathy Gobbart and Julie Savell fell by the wayside as they were dispatched 22-8 putting the Mossy girls into a final against defending champions Abe and Stower.
Warburton had the better of the battle up front giving Andersen more to work with as both skippers played well.
A three on the 10th end gave Andersen an 11-4 lead and it always looked tough for Abe to get back into it.
Consistency from Andersen and Warburton meant that Abe and Stower could only manage singles until they picked up a two on the penultimate end.
This kept them in the game but 14-10 behind they needed a four just to get an extra end.
As it turned out Abe had a shot to play to hold game with her last, needing to remove two bowls to potentially make five. Alas her shot was wide as Andersen and Warburton claimed a 16-10 victory.
