State Bowls

State SidesThe level of State Bowls in WA is highly competitive. Nationally, there is a competition held each year to determine the 'Best State/ Territory" called the Australian Sides Championships.

To be selected to represent Western Australia, the State selectors need to pick you. Their selection is based on the individuals who make themselves available for selection, the trialling at training, and the performance of the individuals over each year.

There is a WA Men's State squad from which the Men's State team is selected. This squad consists of 24 + men who attend squad training sessions and trials.

The WA Women have a different system - they have a State Squad consisting of 16 Players and a State 'A' Squad of 16 players. The State 'A' Squad is for players that are almost ready to represent WA, but need to prove themselves. There are no restrictions on selecting someone from the 'A' Squad if they meet the criteria of selection.

There are some extenuating circumstances in which a person outside of the squad may be selected because of outstanding performances in State and Masters events.

The Australian Sides Championships consists of a men's competition (16 players) and a women's competition (12 players). Each State will play one another over three and a half days to determine the winner. The venue of the Championships varies each year, allowing each state to host the event every seven years.
