PBA Day 1 Results

Played at Innaloo Bowling Club 23.07.2013 Hosted in Western Australia for the first time, Innaloo Bowling Club played host to some of the best players around the country with the finals of the National Professional Bowlers Assocation (PBA) Championships.
The bowlers had earned the right to play by qualifying at various state venues with the National qualifiers earning a spot in the PBA tour events (Scottish International Open, World Indoor Pairs, World Indoor Singles and International Open) to be played in the UK in late 2013 and early 2014.
Scottish International Open
WA was represented by four players in the Scottish International Open but could not produce a qualifier. David Rankin the only one to survive the semi finals just missing a spot going down by the closest possible margin when 19yo Aaron Teys from Warilla secured the win in the 3rd end of the tie breaker. Teys who is a former Australian Under 18 Representative and Australian Open Pairs runner-up dug deep for the win after losing the first set. The other qualifier was 25yo Jamie Smith from Wynnum Manly who impressed with a dominant display over fellow queenslander Steve Halmai who has qualified in all four events. Smith who won the 2012 Queensland State Singles secured the win in straight sets.

World Indoor Pairs

Western Australia’s chances of securing a qualifying spot looked good when Mick Erceg and Daniel Patterson convincing won the first set of the Pairs final against the Queensland pair of Jason Carpenter and Steve Halmai 11-2 however it was not to be as they eventually lost in a very tight tiebreak. Halmai who still has another two events to play will now head back to the UK for the second time after previously qualifying in singles, the win making up for the disappointment of losing the Scottish final.
