WA Champions into National final

by admin on October 10, 2013

Patterson and Abe to play for National Singles titles WA is a strong chance of securing a unique double with both the Men and Women Champion of Champion Singles representatives advancing to the National final after sectional play was completed at Ascot Park Bowling Club, South Australia.

Noelene Abe (Corrigin) has spent the last few years in WA racking up singles titles will be keen to add National honours to her impressive bowls CV. She was simply too good for her opposition today winning 21-9 against Lyn Prosso (SA), 21-16 against S Aumann (NT) and 21-18 against Ann Draffen (VIC). She will play Queensland’s Kirsty Thatcher who was also undefeated in her sectional play.

Daniel Patterson (Bassendean) had a tougher road to the final but had the luxury of being able to drop his last sectional match and still advance. Opening round victories of 21-13 against Craig Mills (SA) and 21-15 against Ian Lane (NT) were enough despite a 21-19 loss to the talented Lee Schraner (VIC) who had earlier suffered an upset 21-20 loss against local South Australia Craig Mills. Patterson now plays former English international David Holt (NSW) in the final.

Both Noelene and Daniel will play at 9.00am South Australian time tomorrow morning and should they claim National honours will represent Australia in the World Champion of Champions in Christchurch New Zealand November 2014.

The Men’s Pairs sectional play was also completed today with Bill Brandsma and Jamie O’Keefe needing to win their last match to advance to the final. Unfortunately they were beaten 17-11 by Victoria.

The Women’s Pairs event starts tomorrow from 9.00 SA Time with WA representatives Kristina Krstic and Rechelle Cole (Manning) engaged.
