Women’s State Singles down to the Semi Finals
Played Sunday 26th January 2014 The Western Australian Taylor Bowls Women’s State Singles has finished the day with 4 players remaining in contention for the 2013-14 Title. It will be a tale of two semi finals when two previous champions line up on one side and two hopeful champions on the other.
The first semi final sees Therese Hastings (Manning), last years runner up and 3 times state singles champion take on 2011-12 champion Bev Baker (Mosman Park). Hastings won her way through after defeating fellow state squad and club members Liz West (Manning) 21-13 and Robyn O’Brien (Manning) 21-13. Baker had a similar score line day when she defeated country star Noeleen Keeffe (Gingin) 21-13 and state squad member Liz Brooke (Manning) 21-16
The second semi final will see two players attempting to make their first Taylor Bowls State Singles final. Anne Crabb (Gosnells) will be attempting to be the first Gosnells lady to claim the title since Mrs M Couper in 1975-76. In todays play Crabb overcame state squad member Shari Solly (Vic Park Carlisle) 21-16 and country favourite Karen Miller (Ravensthorpe) 21-13. Crabbs opponent will be consistent state event performer Linda Warburton (Mosman Park). Warburton comes from a club with a proud history of women’s state singles winners and she will be eager to add her name to the illustrious list. In todays games Warburton had solid wins over two Manning players with the first being Helen Heal 21-11 and then Amanda Masters 21-6 in the quarterfinals.
The Semi Finals and Final of the Women’s and Men’s Taylor Bowls State Singles will be at the Morley Bowling Club on Monday 27th January. Semi Finals will begin at 9.30am with the Final set to start approx. 30 mins after the last Semi Final finishes.
