Mixed pairs champions crowned

This year’s mixed pairs champions have been crowned at the $140,000 Australian Open after triumphing in last night’s blockbuster final. The dream run through this year’s draw has been captured for NSW representatives Jenny Roberts and Greg Brims. The dual Port Macquarie mixed pairs champions had a slow start to the match, trailing from the first three ends of play, but capitalising on the next eight ends to register a thrilling 17-7 on the scorecard over Gin Gin Bowls Club’s Cassandra Millerick and Broadbeach’s Scott De Jongh. The dynamic duo proved too strong for their opposition, only dropping four ends from the games entirety en-route to their 2014 Australian Open championship crowning. The powerhouse pair were however put to the test during their semi-finals berth against 2010 Commonwealth Games silver medallist Julie Keegan and 2012 Australian Champion of Champions pairs crown Des Cann Jnr. Roberts and Brims had spectators on the edge of their seats as they left their assertion of the match to the last two ends to register a 13-11 victory and their guernsey’s in last night’s final.
