As the dust settled on day one of the 2014 WIN Network Trans-Tasman test at the Traralgon Bowls Club, the Australian contingent hold sway winning all but one of the categories played today. The New Zealand women’s development team won four and lost two matches en-route to claim that overall test match result but that was where it ended for the visitors who were unable win any, on wins alone, of the remaining tests played except for equalling the Australian open men on wins but fell short in the shot differential. New Zealand and Australia both won three matches each in the open men’s with Australia ending the day prevailing by 15 shots on the day in an epic battle. Five of six matches went the way of the Australian open women with rare success coming the way of New Zealand’s women’s open fours early afternoon showdown where they defeated the Aussies 18-9. The Australian men’s development team prevailed in their six match test series by winning four matches throughout day one with New Zealand combining to claim both matches in the afternoon courtesy of the singles and fours disciplines. A dominant performance by the Australian junior team resulted in an emphatic display on day one with the under 18 boys and girls failing to drop a match although the visiting girl’s fours outfit combined to salvage a tie in the round two clash. Australia took the honours in a tight and entertaining para-sport competition today with the Vision Impaired Mixed pairs and Bowlers with a Disability triples event ending with a 3 ½ to 2 ½ overall test win to Australia.
