Moran marches into final

Former Scottish International Kay Moran is the first player through to tomorrow’s Australian Indoor Championships women’s final, and is now just one win away from her maiden title at the $30,000 event. Moran took a few ends to find form on the Fox Sports showcase rink, finding herself scoreless and five shots down after the opening three ends against Tasmania’s Carol Bannister. Despite the Dover bowlers best efforts, and consistent draw bowling, Moran converted at every opportunity, gritting her way to within a shot after the penultimate end, 6-7. Then the pint sized Cabramatta ace produced a bomb with her final delivery of the set, trailing the jack to hold four, with Bannister unable to claw back the margin with her last bullet. The second set proved to be somewhat of a formality for the former Scottish raider, blasting her way to a 15-1 lead in just seven ends to wrap up proceedings with two ends to spare. “It’s hard to settle down out there on the TV rink, and Carol certainly didn’t make it easy,” Moran said after advancing. “She found her drawing rhythm really quickly, but when she got away to a 7-1 lead, which actually relaxed me. “I was just thinking I had to try to salvage something out of the game, and that helped me in some respects. “Almost every end she lay the shot but I always managed to convert, which was lucky for me.” Moran is now just one win away from following in the footsteps of six-time Australian Indoor Championships winner close friend and Cabramatta teammate Karen Murphy. “I’ll be trying for her, to be honest, I’ll give it my best shot,” Moran said. Moran will encounter the winner of Tweed Head’s Kristy Thatcher and St Johns Park’s Jamie-Lee Worsnop in the final decider, with their semi-final set for 2.00pm this afternoon. “I’ll have to play much better if I’ve got any chance in the final,” Moran noted. “I’ll definitely have to find my stride early and get away, because those two are both really top players, so I’ll need to step it up.” Caption: Kay Moran doing a post-match interview with Fox Sports commentator Mark Braybrook.
