Coming to a Holt

by admin on August 21, 2014

Former English Commonwealth Games gold medallist David Holt will chase a second Australian national title after booking himself a berth in the men’s final at the Australian Indoor Championships this morning. The St Johns Park star, who took out the coveted National Champion of Champions singles crown last October, is now just one win away from adding his second Bowls Australia national title to his extensive résumé, which also includes a PBA World Indoor pairs gold medal with Tony Allcock and nine English indoor and outdoor titles. Holt now has the opportunity to prolong his international career with his adopted nation, given he has already received his green and gold uniform to wear in New Zealand later this year for the World Champion of Champions, with the winner of the Australian Indoor Championships afforded entry into the World Cup to represent Australia. Squaring off against Australian Premier League’s Perth Suns star Clive Dams, Holt hit his straps early in the semi-final eliminator, collecting a full-count of 4 on the third end before taking the the rest in his stride. Holt mitigated Adams’ attack, allowing his Cambridge opponent to score on just five of the 16 ends played, with the last end of both sets not required, to post a 10-4, 10-3 victory. In the blockbuster international calibre final poised for 2.00pm this afternoon, Holt will do battle with Australian Jackaroos vice-captain Brett Wilkie, who is looking to obtain the trophy he last held aloft in 2010. The blue-ribbon women’s final between Cabramatta’s former Scottish representative Kay Moran and 17 year-old Australian junior ace Jamie-Lee Worsnop will be played from 11.00am.
