Noelene Abe Rules The Women’s Taylor Bowls State Singles

by admin on January 24, 2015

Completed Monday 26th January 2015 Noelene Abe (Corrigin) now has a hat trick of WA State Singles titles after victory over Kristina Krstic (Manning) in the final of the Western Australian Taylor Bowls State Singles at Manning today.
The day began with Abe taking on Janne Gibsone (Mosman Park) and Krstic doing battle with Kerry Andersen (Mosman Park) in the Semi Finals. Abe started quickly with a three nil lead before falling behind Gibsone 3-6. It was then that Abe started to take control and won eight of the next nine ends to build a 12 shot lead to take control 19-7. A spirited couple of ends by Gibsone was short lived as Abe powered her way into the final with a 25-13 win.
The other Semi Final saw Krstic take control from the outset. Previously in the tournament Krstic had found herself coming from behind but not on this occasion, as she raced to a 12-1 lead over Andersen. A one and then a two saw Andersen finally put a little of scoreboard pressure on. Hwever with total confidence, Krstic gathered herself again and put the pedal down to pull away to a 25-5 win.
The good sized crowd settled down to what they hoped would be a top class show of Bowls and they were not to be disappointed. Abe jumped out of the blocks to move to a dominant position on the scoreboard. If somebody had just walked into Manning on the 7th end, they would have thought it was a one sided game. Abe lead 9-1 and seemed to be dominating, however the scoreboard was not reflecting the closeness of the match as Krstic matched Abe bowl for bowl on a majority of ends but could not put the score on the board. A three to Krstic on the 8th end was immediately answered by Abe on the 9th as she also took a three, although Krstic was now starting to put some score on the board, she was unable to string ends together. At 15-9, Krstic again looked dangerous but consistently close bowls form Abe were starting to take there toll as Abe closed in on the championship. A run of singles to Abe suddenly turned into a full count of four and put her into an unstoppable position at 23-10. Another two singles closed out the game and Abe took home her third WA State Singles Title.
Final Knockout Scores
END OF DAY 2
Noelene Abe (Corrigin) will be looking for her third WA State Singles title to add to her bulging trophy cabinet.
Janne Gibsone (Mosman Park) is a consistent performer in State Championships with a couple of titles to her credit but Gibsone will be searching for her first WA State Singles title tomorrow at Manning BC
Kristina Krstic (Manning) has had to come from behind in recent games to take her place in this years Semi Finals. Krstic will be looking for faster starts as she aims for her first WA State Singles title and the chance to become the first former Under 18 Girls State Singles winner to win a senior WA Singles title.
Kerry Andersen (Mosman Park) is no stranger to State Championship Finals but surprisingly has never won a WA State Singles title. Coming off an injury and some time out of the game, will 2015 be Andersen’s year.
