Blundstone Melbourne Roys secure Wilson for APL03

The hunt is over for the Blundstone Melbourne Roys, who confirmed today they have acquired the services of Australian ‘A’ Squad member Aaron Wilson for the 2015 Australian Premier League.

Wilson, a promising star of the sport who shot on to the scene in 2013 when he claimed the $18,000 Australian Open singles, has today joined forces with the Blundstone Melbourne Roys franchise to replace the departing Graeme Archer.

The Roys made an announcement last week that they were seeking a Melbourne based bowler to represent their franchise in APL03 and Aaron Wilson became the perfect fit.

Wilson will bring youth and enthusiasm to the team and combined with Fitzroy Victoria sensation Dylan Fisher, the pair are set to lay a strong platform for Australian Jackaroo Matthew Flapper who joins Fisher in his third year with the franchise.

Whilst it may be easy to assume that Flapper will skip the trio, the Blundstone Melbourne Roys have done their homework and found that the more successful APL teams are flexible with their line ups; so don’t be surprised if the young ones take the reigns from time to time.

Although it was a sad announcement that Graeme Archer will be moving interstate, the timing might just be perfect for the Roys to make a change as they look to improve upon two fifth place finishes.

Aaron Wilson does not lack determination and passion for the game, and having watched the APL for two years he understands what it will take for the Roys to hold up the trophy in 2015.

“I’m really excited to play with some real good blokes from Victoria in Matty (Matthew Flapper) and Snapper (Dylan Fisher), and coming up against the best at such a prestigious event,” Wilson said.

“Playing against Australian representatives and some of the world’s best will be a great opportunity for me to put my best foot forward and the chance to play on live television is very exciting.”

“I bring to the team lots of noise and plenty of enthusiasm and I certainly can’t wait to play for the Roys in APL03.”

Home town hero Dylan Fisher, the star of the Roys being a Fitzroy Victoria member and the current world under-25 singles champion, said he is thrilled to have his Victorian team mate Aaron Wilson join the charge.

“I’m very happy to have Aaron on board especially being a born and bred Victorian boy; he fits the bill perfectly for the Roys, who wanted to have a Melbourne based side,” Mr Fisher said.

“Aaron is the most exciting up and comer in Victoria and he will be a great asset to the Melbourne Roys.”

The Fitzroy Victoria initiative ‘Knock off the Roys’ was a lead up event for the Melbourne Roys players going into APL02 and will be on again this year.

Slight modifications to the event will give more teams the chance to enter for their chance to knock off the Roys and once again will held in the weeks leading up to the APL, providing the perfect opportunity for new team look team to get their practice in ahead of the main event.

The ‘Knock off the Roys’ tournament will be a great initiation for Wilson and a chance for him to adapt to the APL’s new format and fast paced games.

The $110,000 Australian Premier League is set for its third installment at Club Pine Rivers from November 10 to 13.
