Men’s Midweek BCiB Pennant Finals

by admin on March 26, 2015

Played Thursday, 26th March 2015 at Osborne Park BC Osborne Park made their home-advantage count with an incredibly fast start on their lightening fast greens, as they took a 13-nil lead after just three ends of the Men’s Midweek BCiB Premier League Pennant Final against a stunned South Perth.
After 12 ends, the Millers had only managed a solitary shot on each rink and trailed 29-3, as Keith Guelfi picked up consecutive 4s and Graham Evans another 5.  Neville Stevens then added a 3 and a 2 to lead Vinnie Santostefano 12-1 after six ends and the scores were just as unflattering for Greg Reagan and Scott Walker who trailed Guelfi and Evans 13-1 and 11-3 respectively.
South Perth won eight of the next nine ends; Walker impressively driving at a lone Saints’ bowl to pick up 4 and suddenly the momentum was with the Millers despite trailing by 17 after 27 ends.
That was as close as they would get to Osborne Park as the Saints regained their composure and then punished their opponents who dropped 5s on each rink within a few ends of each other.
After two-thirds of the final, Osborne Park led 60-34 which very quickly became 70-34 just as the rain started to fall.  The dark skies and overcast conditions would do nothing to dampen the Saints’ bright mood as they thoroughly deserved their virtually unassailable lead and arguably their right to celebrate to ahead of schedule.
Instead, they waited until after Bowls WA CEO Ken Pride presented them with the Pennant Flag to give their supporters a rousing rendition of the club song, ‘When The Saints Go Marching In’.
