Men and Women State Triples Finals Results

by admin on April 19, 2015

Played 20th April 2015 at Osborne Park The finals of the Men’s and Women’s Henselite State Triples were concluded yesterday at Osborne Park Bowling Club in near perfect conditions and on a brilliantly prepared green running an ideal 16 seconds.
The Men’s final was a local affair with both teams coming from the host club Osborne Park. Perhaps going in as underdogs the experienced trio of Graham Evans, Steve O’Neill and Ian Lilburne proved too good for John Goddard, Gary Caffell and Gary Nicol. After a steady start by Evans side they clawed there way to a 11-6 lead after 12 ends. A grandstand finish looked likely as Goddard’s trio began to close the margin with a couple of singles to 11-8 but a big score of 4 snuffed out the challenge. The final score ended up 15-9.
Likewise the Women’s final followed a similar scenario to the Men’s. The Manning side of Therese Hastings, Helen Morss and Toni Madigan began very well to lead 16-5 after 9 ends however the North Beach side of Ann Drayson, Jillian Russell and Carol Roe began a recovery effort. They won a string of ends to make the score 16-11 and looked capable of threatening with just four ends to go. Hastings and crew however had other plans and regrouped for a big score of 5 before claiming the title 23-14 in convincing fashion.
