Abe through to the quarter finals

by admin on June 22, 2015

Corrigin’s Noelene Abe will take on Victorian youngster Tiffany Brodie, 17, at 12.15 WST today for a spot in the last four of the Women’s Singles at Australian Open on the Gold Coast.  The recently crowned Bowler of the Year is one of Western Australia’s most decorated stars and her form, especially in the Singles, has hardly wavered over the past five years.
Abe got her 2015 campaign off to a strong start with a 21-4 win over Margaret O’Connor and followed that up with a 21-9 victory against Grace Wallsh.  However, she was pushed all the way by young New South Wales State Representative Ellen Ryan, 18, where experience may have been the telling factor as the veteran held on to win 21-19.  The two could yet meet again in the final despite Ryan’s narrow loss in sectional play as the NSW starlet has strung an impressive run through to the quarter finals and now faces Siti Zalina Ahmad.  While Abe’s path included a nail-biting 21-20 win over her State team mate Linda Warburton (Mosman Park).
