WA Legend Ron Taylor signs up for the Mandurah APL Cup
Former Australian representative Ron Taylor is set to compete in the Mandurah APL Cup for the Connect Hearing Legends team.
Taylor, based in Mandurah, will bring a local flavour to the Legends who will be looking to prove bowls was in fact better in their day.
The 1970 Rosenthal Medallist will be joined by other Western Australian Legends who will be announced at a later date.
It’s not hard to see why Taylor is included in this illustrious group when you view his résumé as he has an extensive list of achievements to his name.
Taylor represented his state 180 times along a journey that saw him win almost every major tournament in Western Australia.
Taylor has won State Fours, Triples and Pairs titles and although he was unable to secure a singles title to complete the set he boasts an impressive set of singles accomplishments that more than make up for it.
His singles record includes a Champion of Champions title and four West Coast Singles wins as well as two victories in the Champion of Champions Rosenthal Medallists competition.
The now defunct competition was open only to Rosenthal medal winners and with only two ever played Taylor is the only man to win the title.
Three Country Week Singles wins rounds out his singles résumé with a Country Week Fours victory to cap it all off.
After a number of years away from elite bowls Taylor will don his creams once more and take on the stars of today in an attempt to add the inaugural APL Cup to his list of titles.
