Women’s Tuesday Pennant Finals

by admin on March 23, 2016

played at Osborne Park Bowling Club 23rd March Fourteen teams represented by twelve clubs, with seven taking home a Pennant flag, from all corners of metro WA took to the greens at Osborne Park Bowling Club to play out the Grand Finals in the Women’s BCiB Tuesday Pennant Competition.

In the Premier Division heavy favourites Manning built a solid early lead and were never headed despite a late rally by rivals Mosman Park. Manning who are littered with State Representatives  had a big 27-15 win with Australian player Kristina Krstic and her team of Rechelle Cole, Shari Solly and Toni Madigan playing extremely well.

The 1st White Grand Final again went to the favoured side as top of the table Thornlie who bolster plenty of experienced players especially in the skipper department finished convincing 14 shot winners over Mundaring. Both teams will now return to Premier League next year.

In 1st Green South it was a Safety Bay derby after both sides had defeated top of the table Mosman Park (who gained automatic promotion) to make the grand final. After a good tussle Safety Bay 1 proved the winner mainly courtesy of the rink of Laurie Kenward with Wendy Jones, Lesley White and Patricia Gandy who won 27-16.

1st Blue North proved rather dramatic as the semi finals played on Monday went to extra ends. The grand final proved to be a replay with Joondalup against Mundaring. This time Joondalup won much more convincing with a 10 shot victory. Kerry Stewart with Val Buck, Kay Hill and Myrna Sabel doing the major damage winning 24-16.

In the minor divisions a couple of very close matches were played out. Leeming went into the last end holding a two shot aggregate lead against Manning. On a tense final end the jack was dragged to within three feet of the ditch by Leeming before the Manning third landed a bowl right on the Jack. The Leeming skip was able to draw a very good 2nd shot within 6 inches of the jack and that proved too difficult to beat giving Leeming the narrowest of wins.

In third division Byford also overcame a close match against Warnbro winning by four shots. Lauris Gibbs with Marie Bolingbroke, Tess Harvey and Anne Williamson proved the big winners with a 27-15 scoreline.

4th Division proved a more decisive result as one of the smaller clubs Pickering Brook was rewarded for an outstanding season remaining undefeated all year. The win was set up by a huge 36-9 win by the rink of Gina Altinier, Wendy Kerr, Judith Petrucci and Mollie Weston.

Congratulations to the winners and well done to everyone who participated in the finals.

Thankyou to the Osborne Park Bowling Club for hosting along with the many volunteers, staff, match committee and umpires who made it a great day for all involved.
