Rampaging Bedford Bulls

by admin on January 31, 2017

Round 12 in Review This week the men and the women had vastly different experiences with extremely different weather conditions. While the men had to fight the heat on Saturday, the women were battling against the rain only a few days later on Tuesday with most of the games washed out. Luckily we have a round we prepared earlier and this week’s results have been combined with last week’s since we didn’t have an article last week.
Men’s Saturday Competition
There was a clear winner for the biggest rink win on Saturday with Bedford’s massive win over Yokine in 4th Division Blue. Three rinks had wins by over 20 shots as the Bulls cruised to an 87 shot win 131-44. More importantly Bedford secured a vital eight points to stay in touch with leaders Bassendean.
Fourth Division was also home to the biggest rink win of the week. Hilton Park in Fourth Red picked up six valuable points for attempting to stave off demotion due in massive part to a 33 shot win to Ian Blanch and his rink. The win was also the difference in the aggregate.
Fourth Division White was home to all the action with an amazing performance from one Rossmoyne rink. After being down 2-19 Brent Bellon, Leslie Brown, William Newberry and John Roberts came back to win 26-20 after changing the length and going full length tee to tee. The most impressive part of the comeback came on the second last end when the side picked up an eight to take the lead.

Women’s Tuesday Competition
The best aggregate win of the last two weeks came in 2nd Division last week where Rossmoyne were victorious by 46 shots. They did drop a rink but the two winning teams both won by 25 shots to give the side a comfortable win. The win keeps them in the finals race for 2nd Red.
Three sides have tied for the biggest rink win over the last couple of rounds with a margin of 29 shots. All three games were played last week and they’ve come from a variety of divisions. Patricia Boardman’s Wanneroo rink in 2nd Division Blue won 35-6 to set up Wanneroo’s 37 shot aggregate win. In 3rd Red Willetton’s Amanda Heiner led her rink to 37-8 win which made up the baulk of the side’s 33 shot aggregate win. Finally in 4th Blue Merriwa AFA skipper Maila Piirto and her side won 39-10, a win that was always going to lead to team success in the two rink completion.
