Women’s 100up Singles results Therese Hastings has won a record fifth Women’s 100up singles defeating Linda Warburton at Manning Bowling Club on Thursday to claim it.
The 102-88 score line was indicative of a tight game in which Hastings only established a lead at the end.
Both players endured even tight semi-final encounters to make their way through to the finals.
Hastings defeated Nerrida Porteous 108-92 in a game that may have been decided by a late charge from Hastings. Hastings did hold a 10 shot lead midway through the much but Porteous got herself in front 76-84 just four ends later. Hastings dug deep though to take a seven, a six and a big ten over the next three ends to get to 99-91. She finished off the next end with a nine to make her sixth 100up final.
Warburton was leading 46-34 against Denise Kelly but was slowly but surely pegged back until Kelly levelled the game at 75-75. It looked like Warburton had broken clear decisively with a nine the next end but Kelly scored two numbers of her own to lead 89-91. However another nine from Warburton was enough to get her to 98 and she was too close to the mark for Kelly to stop.
In the final Hastings held the first lead of any size with a 42-28 lead early in the game. From there Warburton was able to keep that margin slowly shrinking and at 86-84 although Warburton hadn’t taken the lead it was anyone’s match. With both women having shown an ability to score a late count the next end seemed to be the pivotal point in the match. It proved to be the deciding end as Hastings sat a bowl out to make 10 and take a 12 point lead with next to no time for Warburton to comeback. A final end six was enough for Hastings to pass the hundred mark and extend her lead as the state’s most successful 100up player.
The win continues a great season for Hastings adding to the State Fours and Pairs titles she has already won.
