State Fours finals this Sunday

by admin on October 25, 2017

to be played at Sorrento Bowling Club The Bowls WA Men’s and Women’s State Fours will conclude on Sunday at Sorrento Bowling Club with both events down to the semi-finals.
The semis will begin at 9.30 with Daniel Brown vs Maurice Crabb, Peter Wachmer vs Tom Mitchell, Noelene Abe vs Shaan Saunders and Angela Sharp vs Helen Morss.
Across the two competitions 13 former winners of the event will be in action for at least the morning session.
The finals are scheduled to kick off around 1.30pm with spectators encouraged to come and watch.
For those unable to get to Sorrento Bowls WA will be live streaming games on the Bowls WA Facebook page throughout the day.
In the men’s draw Tom Mitchell’s side has to be considered a huge chance to take the crown.
All four players are previous winners with eight titles between them however Mitchell will be looking to win as a skipper for the first time.
They were one game away from victory last year and have already beaten fellow title fancy Clive Adams rink.
As the other two former victors left in the field the two Daniels, Brown and Trewhella are also a big chance. Second Kevin McKay has also won a state title in the triples with the two before so the side has a proven record together. A good win over John Slavich is their most notable scalp so far, they won that match by just one shot after being down 0-7 in the early stages.
Peter Wachmer from Fremantle is in great form after a deep Mt Lawley Consistency Singles run. Whilst his side won’t be the most fancied remaining they’ve already gotten past capable teams in Paul Walker (Mosman Park) and Steven Wattleworth (North Beach) and are just one more good performance away from a maiden state final.
Finally, Maurice Crabb’s Gosnells side might be the biggest surprise of the tournament so far. A quarter-final victory over four-time Rosenthal Medallist Anthony Provost will have put the rest of the field on notice.
In the women’s draw three of the four reigning champs remain in the field.
Helen Morss may have one change from her victorious side but her team has blasted through the competition so far. With an average winning margin of 13 shots so far, the side looks ominous again.
The favourite for the other semi-final would have to be Noelene Abe. Her four have won the event together twice and are well positioned to claim their third title.
Shaan Saunders win over Lisa Featherby shows her side is a genuine chance to knock them over however.
Likewise Angela Sharp isn’t without a claim having just beaten Kristina Krstic in her quarter-final.
