The WA bowls community is in shock following the passing of WA State Representative and well known bowler Daniel Patterson.
The 28yo Patterson was fatally injured when the Haulpak he was driving left the road at Rio Tinto’s Channar mine in Paraburdoo. The Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety is investigating the incident, which happened about 11pm on Wednesday.
Patterson who began his career at Bassendean Bowling Club and more recently played at Cambridge Bowling Club was an extremely likeable personality within the bowls family and one of Western Australia’s top state representatives, having notched up 66 appearances since making his debut in 2012 as the state’s 169th capped male player. Bowls WA Chief Executive Officer Ken Pride publicly said his shock death was a “massive” loss for the bowls community, he paid tribute to Patterson via The West Australian.
“There will be no one really who plays bowls in WA and doesn’t know him,” Mr Pride said.
