Everest of Bowls preview The second iteration of the Everest of Bowls will be held at Dudley Park Bowling Club starting on Thursday.
Players from all over the country have come to try to win a share of the $100,000 prize pool, the largest in Australia.
Every state and territory except for Tasmania along with Internationals from the New Zealand and the United Kingdom will be present trying to grab a share of the lucrative prizemoney.
After last year’s successful inaugural tournament the field has been expanded to 96 players with a strong Western Australia contingent ready to take on the visitors.
Last year’s winner Aaron Wilson and runner-up Ben Twist both return to headline the invaders from the East.
Four of the five Australian Commonwealth Games representatives will come over as Aron Sherriff, Nathan Rice and Brett Wilkie join Wilson.
Other big names with singles titles under their belt include Jeremy Henry, Shannon McIlroy and Aaron Teys.
Within the local field there are also some strong contenders with six state singles winners and numerous players with WA rep experience in the field.
There’s strong country representation as well with four WA Country Week Singles winners as well as three-time Country Bowler of the Year, and possibly the host club’s best hope, Mark Simpson.
Players will be drawn into 24 sections of four players with the sectional round to be held over two start days on Thursday and Friday.
That draw will take place at Dudley Park at 6pm tonight and will be live streamed on the $100,000 Everest Facebook page.
The 24 winners will be re-drawn on Friday night into eight sections of three players with that round of fixtures on Saturday.
Finally on Sunday we’ll get into the knockout stage with the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final. The event a survival of the best with the final played till one player reaches 31 shots.
With so much sectional play there promises to be some cracking games with the big names far less likely to miss each other in the draw.
A slight change to the payout structure will see all of the initial section winners get at least their $1000 entry fee back.
The money steadily increase over subsequent rounds with the winner set to net a massive $50,000 prize.
