Country Triumph over City

by Aaron Delaporte on March 1, 2019

The WA Country All Stars has emerged with a terrific victory over their city counter parts in the traditional opener to Men’s Country Week at Osborne Park Bowling Club last night. The overall scoreline a 131-122 victory.

The State Team was missing some key players with Clive Adams, John Slavich and Shane Knott at BPL09 and Matt Mitchell a last minute withdrawal but still boasted plenty of quality names, however it was the Country All Stars who performed the better on the night. A tight contest was swayed the Country way courtesy of Jon Sharp who was superb with team mates France, Plant and Schinzig in a big 29-16 win over Dave Rankin. Another country rink to come up trumps was the Justin Smith skipped team of Pennington, Russell and Watson who recorded a comfortable 27-13 over Simon Alden’s metro side.

Best for the city was the team’s skipped by Cody Packer and Aj Heal with 26-17 and 24-17 wins respectively. The state selectors would have been pleased with the performance of state newcomers Kevin McKay and Russel Bates who both played well in their first performances in black and gold uniform for WA.

Attention now turns to the first day of BCiB Men’s Country Week with players in action for the Singles discipline. All Country Week results available via this link.
