Women’s Tuesday Pennant Winners

Blooms The Chemist Women’s Tuesday Pennant competition saw seven different clubs crowned as Pennant champions when the competition grand finals were played out today at Osborne Park Bowling Club in humid condition. A representative from the competition sponsor Blooms The Chemist was on hand to present the winning sides their flags with Bowls WA Vice President Larry Bandy handing out the individual pennant pins to those from the winning sides.

Women’s Tuesday Pennant Finals

Premier League – Mosman Park def by Manning

Manning clinched their 10th flag in the last 12 years with a dominant display against it’s regular main challenger Mosman Park. Many pundits were giving Mosman Park a strong chance of claiming the flag after they toppled the ladder leaders Manning on Monday by 11 shots with wins on all three rinks. However in the grand final Manning bought their “A game” with the rinks of Helen Morss and Kristina Krstic doing the damage winning by 23 and 17 respectively. Lisa Featherby’s team with Linda Warburton in great form provided a 11 shot win for the runner-ups Mosman Park.

1st Div White – Thornlie def by North Beach

North Beach came for 4th on the ladder to record a memorable pennant victory for their club. After beating Manning on Monday by 6 shots, they then dispatched the best team all year in Melville by 7 shots before a comprehensive 14 shot win in the grand final. The Carole Roe skipped rink proving the difference with a 15 shot win. Runner-ups Thornlie and the top of the ladder Melville will be promoted to Premier League whilst North Beach will remain to defend their flag next season.

1st Div Blue South – Manning def by Gosnells

Gosnells were another side to reverse their semi final loss and did it in grand style today. After a 23 shot loss to Manning on Monday then defeated Willetton in an extra end to advance to today’s grand final to earn a rematch. In a game that was close for the most of the day they pulled away in the second half to win by 12 shots. Pat Richter’s team winning by 11 with Iris Sharkey also having a good day getting up by 7 shots.

1st Div Blue North – Wanneroo def Scarborough

Wanneroo proved to be the team to beat all year in 1st Blue North and fittingly took the title. In a match that was close most of the day they finished the better especially the rink skipped by Theresa O’Day who had a big 14 shot win. The overall result was a 13 shot victory to Wanneroo who gain promotion to 1st White next season.

2nd Division – North Beach 1 def by Melville

Melville capped a great season in 2nd division by claiming the pennant over North Beach in a great match. Melville like North Beach had lost just 2 games for the entire season so it was no surprise they had a solid battle and in fact it was the only game still on the line with an end to play. Unfortunately for North Beach they couldn’t claim the 7 shots needed and the flag went to Melville. These two sides will be joined by Wanneroo and Byford as the promoted teams into 1st Division next year.

3rd Division – Merriwa def Warnbro 1

Another team to lose just two games for the year was the Merriwa 3rd Division team who won on all rinks against Warnbro to claim the flag. Julia Barron with a 14 shot win doing best for the champions. Joining Merriwa and Warnbro with promotions to 2nd Division are Belmont City and Pickering Brook.

4th Division – Perth and Tattersalls def by Mundaring

Perth and Tatts were looking to win back to back flags but there party was spoilt by Mundaring who recorded a come from behind victory. Elisa Appleby’s team did a great job to down Lisa Smith by 3 shots with Maureen Chitty getting home by 7 it was a comfortable 10 shot win by Mundaring in the two rink competition.
