Women’s Country v Metro Results

A good crowd gathered at Cockburn Bowling Club for the annual Country v Metro Challenge which is a pipe opener to Women’s Country Week in which the four country zones select three rinks each to contest against a metropolitan team.

WA Country Side to play Metropolitan

Earlier in the morning the Presidents 12 played the WA State Team and came away with an upset 51-32 shot win. Karen Murphy who was a special guest at this event  played superbly as third for Lee Poletti, aided by Liz Matthews and Pauline Bourne came away with a 24-8 shot win over Lisa Featherby. Kaye Blackwell won 19-9 over Helen Morss whilst Kristina Krstic’s team of Robin Jolly, Noelene Abe and Laura Merz was the only winner for the State side with a 15-8 victory over Kathy Gobbart.

Bowls WA President Kerry Andersen welcomed all the players and visitors and along with Karen Murphy presented the two new state players in Lisa Brannan and Jenny Parker with their state caps. Bowls WA Country Director Ross Warburton then presented the numerous debuting country players with their Country caps. Karen Murphy representing Country Week sponsors Domina BCiB along with State Manager Jenny Gaul congratulated the players on their selection and wished all players good bowls for the day and for the Country Week events.

After a great competition the day was won by the metropolitan side for the 10th time in its 13 year history, albeit not without a strong showing by the country reps as both teams won 5 rinks each with 2 draw. Metropolitan took the aggregate 244-220.

Best for the metro was the team of Coralie Shattock (Safety Bay), Lynn Scott (Saefty Bay) Jill Adam (Osborne Park) and Liz Marshall (Sorrento) who recorded a big 33-12 win. For the country two teams had 8 shot victories. Paula Reid’s (Kojonup) team of L James (Karlgarin), M Rance (Esperance) and S Bilney (Kojonup) winning 22-14 along with Elaine McDonald’s (Eaton) team of J Millar (Yunderup), L Egerton-Green (Harvey), I Kozack (Port Bouvard) winning 21-13.
