Women’s Saturday Pennant winners

Four different clubs took home flags as the Blooms the Chemist Women’s Saturday Competition was wrapped up over the weekend.

1st Red

Manning continue to be a force in Women’s bowls winning another top grade flag. A number of their players took a second flag in the space of 5 days as they came from fourth on the ladder to win the competition. Surprisingly they played the 3rd placed Leeming team who earlier in the day had stopped Sorrento winning their 3rd successive flag with a solid 31-24 victory whilst Manning defeated top of the ladder Melville 40-24. In the final it was all Manning as they trounced Leeming 48-15. Karina Gale and her rink capping a great season winning 25-9 whilst Laura Merz and her team were equally impressive winning 23-6.

1st Blue

North Beach celebrated a great season by topping the ladder and then going onto win the flag in first division blue. Along with Mosman Park who will join them in top grade next year they had just the 3 losses for the year and it was fitting that the two teams played off for the flag. In the end North Beach who had the home ground advantage did the better winning on both rinks. Liz Brooke with a 15-12 victory whilst Lee Anne Green had a nice 21-6 win to propel the team to a 36-18 victory.

2nd Division

The Wanneroo side achieved the holy grail of a perfect season when they narrowly accounted for Victoria Park Carlisle 40-33 in the closest of the grand finals played. Wanneroo were simply superb all year never losing a match. Pat Boardman and her rink with a 24-15 win to carry the day for Wanneroo. The other rink of Therese O’Day went down narrowly 16-18 but without doubt should be applauded for a great year. The two Wanneroo rinks recorded some exceptional victories through out the year and no doubt will be a force in first division next year. Joining them and Victoria Park Carlisle in moving to 1st Division Blue next year will be Warnbro who finished on top of 2nd Lemon.

3rd Division

Merriwa were another club to celebrate a great year and did it in style with a huge 53-20 victory over Perth and Tatts. Julie Barron won 30-6 whilst Maggie Edgar had a 23-14 victory. Merriwa and runner-ups Perth and Tatts will be joined in 2nd Division next season by the other colour winners Rockingham and Mundaring.
