What are Home Care Packages

What do you know about Home Care Packages?

In today’s busy world most people are time poor and this is especially true for the ‘sandwich generation’ – those people managing the demands of everyday life while also caring for parents, partners and grandchildren. While everyone wants to do the right thing by those they love, time away to rest and recuperate is important: simple activities, like a game of bowls with friends, is an important way to unwind.

Caring for an older loved one can be particularly challenging. Fortunately, funding is available through the Federal Government’s Home Care Package programme to support people to live independently in their own homes for longer.

A Home Care Package is a coordinated combination of independent living services, tailored to meet the unique needs of each individual. The Federal Government heavily subsidises the cost of in-home care for people with a Home Care Package in place, with four levels of support available to meet care needs ranging from low to high.

The Federal Government’s new Consumer Directed Care service model ensures people who receive a Home Care Package now have better control over the types of care and services they access, including the ability to choose who delivers their services, and when those services are delivered.

Unfortunately, trying to understand how the system works can be overwhelming and it can feel like there are more questions than answers: how does the application process work? How should a service provider be chosen? What do all the acronyms – HCP, HACC, CHSP, ACAT, RAS, CDC, DHS and more! – really mean?

When the details of the Home Care Package programme feel overwhelming, CPE Group can provide clarity and answers. We support people to get the very most out of their Home Care Package, maximising the hours of support they receive, getting the services they really need, and ensuring they receive services from people who are suitably qualified and experienced. Our team specialises in transitioning existing Home Care Packages, supporting the commencement of new packages and assisting with access to affordable private services.
