Osborne Park duo win Mixed Pairs

by Aaron Delaporte on May 20, 2019

Osborne Park bowler Blake Nairn and Pam Chalmers have combined to win the Mixed State Pairs at Bassendean Bowling Club yesterday. The event in just its second year attracted a mammonth 98 teams who played in the unique sets play knockout 3×3 pairs format.

Nairn and Chalmers had to win 6 matches to claim the title and did it in style with a comprehensive 11-3 8-1 win over Robbie Tiller (Mandurah) and Linda Warburton (Mosman Park) who played equally impressively to make the final but couldn’t match there opposition in the final.

Nairn and Chalmers survived a scare in the semi-final when they took on giant killers Wally Harvey (Rossmoyne) and Shaan Saunders (Osborne Park). The match went to a tie break and Nairn was forced to drive and he got the result he wanted as the jack went out of bounds and was then re-spotted next to a Chalmers bowl. Harvey who had played a great game was then unable to come up with the match winning bowl missing by just centimetres. In the other semi-final Tiller and Warburton defeated the previous winners Glen Pauling (South Perth) and Lee Poletti (Mosman Park) in straight sets.

The mixed pairs was the last state event on the bowls calendar and Bowls WA would like to thank all the players, volunteers and host venues that contributed to a great season. A special thanks to our state series sponsors Dyenamic Sublimation.
