Couples combine for Masters Fours triumph

by Aaron Delaporte on October 1, 2019

Two of WA’s most prominent couples have combined to win the Inaugural Trevors Carpets Masters Mixed Fours at Sorrento Bowling Club yesterday, the opening event for the season in the Dyenamic Masters Series.

The team of Cody Packer, Aj Heal, Hailey Packer and Helen Heal proved too good in the final for Simon Alden, Peter Madigan, Toni Madigan and Jenny Parker 23-7.

A strong field of 32 teams entered the event with a number of bowling couples joining forces to try and take the share of the massive $10,000 prize money on offer.

The 32 teams competed in sections of four on Sunday September 29th with the qualifying sides coming back on Monday to play knock out to decide the winner. The quarter finals all proved to be one sided affairs which then saw Packer v Whitely and Rankin v Alden in the semi-finals which were the closest matches in the tournament. Matt Whitely with Ian and Therese Hastings and Margaret Anderson had control at 11-4 before the Packer skipped foursome eventually over hauled them in a great finished 17-16. Likewise the Alden v Rankin game was a beauty with all eight players in great form. In a match that was close virtually the entire game Alden came out on top over Dave Rankin, Hayden Smith, Sian Smith and Mel Rankin 16-13.

A big thank you to Trevors Carpets for their support and the volunteers and staff who contributed to the running of the event.

The Sorrento greens ran smoothly across the event and the Sorrento Bowling Club look forward to hosting this event again next season.
