Masters Triples Back to back for Slavich

by Aaron Delaporte

Doubleview’s John Slavich has skippered back to back Bassendean Men’s Masters Triples wins as the finals of the event played out yesterday afternoon with $3,500 in prize money up for grabs.

Slavich again teamed with Lee Such (Manning) however Justin Opie (South Perth) was in the lead spot this year with Steve Collins having moved back to the east coast. The three combined magnificently and were outstanding in the final defeating the strong Manning side of Tom Mitchell, Stephen Patterson and Miles Kemp. The final score 22-10.

The day started with the seven sectional winners plus the team of Rhodes, Margin and Hutchinson who qualified as the “lucky loser” next best side in sectional play. The Rhodes team managed to make the semi-finals with a 15-5 win over the Kardinya side of Paul Davies, Joe Galipo and Colin Moore. Slavich’s rink had a 17-11 win over the composite side of Steve Novak, Ryan Moyle and Gavin Faulkner whilst Mitchell had a good 20-9 win against the South Perth team of Nick Reagan, Glyn Pauling and Greg Reagan. The other semi finalist was the Mandurah based team of Brad Ball, Ben Garrett and Matt Trewhella who won 20-8 against Dale Marlsand, Alex Gryta and Drew Daley from Mosman Park.

The semi finals proved to be the best matches of the day. Slavich’s rink getting the better of the Mandurah trio skippered by Ball 16-10 whilst Tom Mitchell survived a thriller against the local hopes from Bassendean skippered by David Rhodes winning 13-12.

Slavich, Such and Cody Packer who won the Masters Mixed Fours all lead the race for the Men’s Champion bowler for the Dyenamic Masters Series.
