The Key Choice Mosman Park Ladies Masters Singles 20/21

by Kaitlin Tyrrell on February 22, 2021

The Key Choice Ladies Masters Singles 20/21 was held at Mosman Park over the 19th -21stth February in near perfect conditions. This event is part of the Dyenamic Masters Series and was well supported with some great sponsors Key Choice Financial Solutions based in Subiaco; the Foot Studio Podiatry- Claremont, The Little Corner Florist- Whitfords and some local sponsors contributing over $4,000 of prizes. With a full field (64) of quality club singles winners the competition was fierce and it was great to see past and present State squad/team members; country league/zone players and bowlers from 28 different clubs fighting hard on the green.

After DAY 1 the first 32 players were down to 4 with 3 straight wins. Kristina Krstic (Manning) State singles winner for 2020/21 and favourite for the event made light work of her first two games and then had to defeat her pennant team mate in Hailey Packer 21/11 to progress to Day 3. Jill Adam (Mosman Pk) progressed after a tight game initially but then hit her straps with two comfortable wins. Lisa Brannan (Melville) had two exceptionally tight games knocking out some proven single winners along the way with a cracking win against Pauline Bourne (Sorrento) 21/20. Lisa Featherby ( Mosman Pk) also battled though, with a marathon game against Therese Hastings 21/19. Jenny Parker (Mosman Park) defeated last years winner Laura Merz (Manning) 21/13 to open up the field and then in the late game in very windy conditions was defeated by Lisa 21/14.
DAY 2 also saw some great match ups and some close outcomes.

The final four were Linda Warburton (Mosman Park) who had to battle her team mates in Lee Poletti in a marathon 21/20 and Trish Cunningham 21/10. Kerry Andersen (Mosman Pk) also progressed showing her calm on the green against a couple of new comers to the event in Diane Bryans (Willetton) 21/15 and Deb Saunders (South Perth) 21/14. With lots of Squad members, Academy and state players past and present at the bottom of the draw it was hard to pick the winners but Roma Dunn (Dudley Park) again showed great consistency to knock out Pam Chalmers (Osbourne Pk) in a nail biter 21/16 , Toni Madigan (Osbourne Pk) 21/17 and then a Dudley Park team mate in Vicki Spragg. Irene Arndt (Safety Bay) was the final qualifier defeating a firm favourite in Noelene Abe 21/13 and State Singles runner up Chris Ace Watson (Boulder) 21/18.

The Sunday saw the final 8 do battle. In the same match up as 2 years ago Linda Warburton and Kerry Andersen played off for a spot in the semis. This time Kerry prevailed 21/18 in a close and long game. At the other end of the green Lisa Featherby and Lisa Brannan had a similar tussle with the game that finished with the same score 21/18, with the predicted winner Lisa!! (Brannan). Both games could have gone either way. Roma Dunn was matched against Irene Arndt but struggled to find the familiar touch and consistency from the day before with Irene winning 21/11. Jill Adam had the hard job of tackling Kristina who continued to bowl with great skill and confidence. The score 21/6 was not reflective of the quality of the game but any bowls put in by Jill were skillfully removed!

The semis were played to 25 up. Kristina continued her stella form defeating Lisa Brannan 25/5 and Irene defeated Kerry 25/16 in a close battle to set up her final against Kristina. With a reasonable audience they commenced the game with slightly trickier conditions. Initially it looked like Kristina’s skill and confidence would make it a quick game jumping to a 12-nil lead, but all credit to Irene who kept fighting and found her draw a few ends in. Kristina wasn’t happy with a few of her drives allowing Irene to score some valuable points but in the end the consistency and shot making won out with Kristina victorious 25-12 in a game played in great spirits. Kristina, who should have been playing at the BPL was a late entry to the Masters Singles but was always the red-hot favourite given a brilliant season that includes a State Singles and State 4’s title this year. A true champion that shows such great skills on the green, with grace and humility on and off the green. A worthy winner without a doubt.

The Mosman Park Bowling club and its many volunteer members, with Lisa Featherby as the main driver of this tournament is a fantastic venue to host this prestigious event and did a great job with the organisation; provision of quality greens and the “Million Dollar View”. Thanks again go to the generous sponsorship and Dyenamic Sublimation as overarching sponsors of the Masters series.
