Family affair in Over 60’s Pairs

by Aaron Delaporte on April 8, 2021

The final of the Over 60s Mixed Pairs will provide plenty of family discussion with the brother and sister combination of Kim Cross (Wonthella) and Lee Poletti (Mosman Park) overcoming the husband and wife team of Ross and Linda Warburton (Brunswick and Mosman Park) respectively.

The final score of 18-16 was a fair indication of the match, with the winners never headed after firing out to a 9-0 lead after only three ends. The Warburton’s responded from there getting it back to 7-10 before another four shot run by the winners seemingly enough to carry the day. But at 7-14 and not to be outdone the challengers went 3,1,2 of their own to be 13-14 after 15 ends in the 18 end match.

The 16th end was almost the final straw with Cross drawing for a full count of six, only to knock up a short opposition bowl to reduce the end to a three – sister was not impressed! A single on the 17th end to make it 18-13 was almost enough and although the runners up grabbed a last end three, the 18-16 result did the match justice.

In the semi finals it was the Warburton’s 14-13 over the Colin Hayes/Jenny Parker combination, with the winners comprehensive 25-8 over last years champions Chris Lander and Pauline Bourne.
