Bowls Blitz Ready To Go

by Pieter Harris on May 20, 2021

The first day of Bowls Blitz is fast approaching as Mt Lawley Bowling Club gears up to host many of the best bowlers in Western Australia on Sunday 23rd May.

With many of the squads both practicing together and fine-tuning strategies, all is set for the most anticipated competition in Western Australia for many years.

While some rain is forecast, that will not dampen the spirits of players and spectators alike as play will go on regardless.

The day will comprise four separate rounds played over a time limit of one and a half hours per round, with all four disciplines of singles, pairs, triples, and fours displayed throughout the day.

The eight franchise managers have released their teams for Round 1 which comprises of three pairs matches. However, each franchise has eight players available and are allowed to substitute players on and off the green or change players between rinks a maximum of five times during a round. This is sure to add an extra element of strategy as the managers may look to change combinations during the round to gain an advantage.

With so many dynamic combinations not seen before, it will be difficult to know who to watch as spectators’ home in on their favourite players.

Kristina Krstic will lead the Blooms The Chemist Stars as she teams up with recent Men’s Champion of Champion Singles Runner Up Blake Butler. They will be taking on BCiB Blitz’s Ryan Moyle and his partner Shari Solly in what will be a fascinating matchup

The BCiB Blitz captain, Laura Merz has been teamed up with Scott Walker as they take on Osborne Park’s Premier League hero Ryan Brown with his partner, up and coming Segan Pasalich.

Enforcers captain Cody Packer will show the way with his partner Lexie Harris in their matchup against Paul Davies and Jack East

The third clash will be the Dyenamic Cyclones up against the Liquor Traders Pirates.

Cyclones captain Clive Adams will be looking to make an immediate impact with his partner Cameron Harris as they take on the talented pairing of Lee Such and Travis Leahy.

The Pirates will be well led by captain Dave Rankin as he partners Robyn O’Brien in their showdown with Neville Stevens and Sian Smith.

The final fixture sees the Senior Recreation Council (SRC) Sharpshooters take on Variety – The Children’s Charity Chargers.

Sharpshooters captain Lisa Featherby is getting straight on the front foot and leading for Justin Opie as they look to take down the reliable Chargers combination of Glenn Pauling and Gavin Faulkner.

Chargers captain Bill Brandsma will sit this week out with a slight knee twinge but he will stalking the sidelines slowly as he cheers on Sean Mawdsley and Kaitlin Tyrrell in their game against Dale Marsland and Miles Kemp

With a scoring system that not only involves points for a win but also points for every end won and bonuses for high scores on an end, every end won or lost could make a big difference to the finals makeup after the full 14 rounds have been played.

These fixtures will not be live streamed so the only way to see many of the best WA players in this unique competition will be to come on down to Mt Lawley on Sunday 23rd May. A little bit of rain will not stop the action and the players are looking for a big crowd to create a huge atmosphere.

Get on down for the whole day from 9.00am to 4.00pm or come on down for a morning or afternoon. After the first round of pairs, we will get a glimpse of the best singles players going head-to-head in both rounds 2 and 3
