Smith and Morss Master the Ladies Pairs
The North Beach Ladies Masters Pairs concluded on Sunday after three days of fierce competition and brilliant bowling, ending with a new pairing claiming masters victory.
With a final 8 made up of some of the best bowlers in the state the final day was set to be a thriller. The day started with two tight semi-finals with great bowls from all players. The game of Laura Merz and Hailey Packer v Lisa Featherby and Linda Warburton had multiple lead changes, with neither team able to get a run of ends or big scores to get a significant lead. Lisa and Linda were able to finish a little stronger to get the win 20-16.
The game between Helen Morss & Lisa Smith and Noelene Abe & Kerry Andersen was also tight, with scores locked at 13 with 2 ends to play. Noelene and Kerry got their noses in front on with a shot in the 17th, however Helen and Lisa were able to respond with a 2 on the last end to win 15-14.
In the final, Helen & Lisa got off to a great start to lead 14-2 after 10 ends. Lisa and Linda fought back, outscoring their opponents 7-1 over the next 5 ends to get within 6 shots. Helen & Lisa picked up a 4 on the 16th end to give themselves a 10 shot lead with 2 ends to play. Lisa and Linda were able to win the last 2 ends, but not with big enough scores to hit the front, going down 14-19.
Congratulations to Helen Morss on a second Ladies Master Pairs title and to Lisa Smith who is a first time winner.
Well done to North Beach Bowling Club for running a magnificent event.
