DAY 5 – EIGHTH NATIONAL BOWLING ARM SIDES CHAMPIONSHIPS RESULTS – 2022

by Denise McMillan on September 11, 2022

After a long hiatus due to Covid-19 national isolation requirements the original 2020 Eighth National Bowling Arm Sides Championships has commenced in 2022 – only a three year break!

Six states have arrived in Western Australia to compete for the honour of winning the Bowls Australia perpetual trophy – so far it has been won by Victoria since the beginning of the tournament in 2013! Will 2022 bring a new result? Only time will tell after the sides compete daily in Singles and Fours plus Pairs and Triples.

Each day this article will be updated to provide scores and rankings – this will happen after the prior days play – so keep an eye out for updates. Pictures will also be uploaded to the Bowls WA Facebook Album:

DAY 5 – FRIDAY 9 SEPTEMBER (FINAL DAY)

What an upset on the final day of play! Victoria showed their strength and pulled through to once again win the perpetual trophy sponsored by Bowls Australia!

It was ‘iffy’ at mid day with Western Australia only one point behind Victoria; however, the mighty Armed Vic’s pulled through leaving Queensland Maroon Arm Bowlers and Western Australia Sandgropers at a draw on 109 points – second position went to Queensland on an aggregate score of 150 versus the Sandgropers 84!

Disappointing to WA and victorious to QLD! Credit goes to WA for winning 4 out of 5 Shields this year – one more than the 3 won in 2019 – the only one missing is the Overland Shield won by Victoria.

It was wonderful to present an 8 Badge to South Australia and also see them take home the Great Australian Bight Shield against Tasmania.

New South Wales Woomeras were gracious in their losses and two Shield wins against SA and TAS, and have promised to come back fighting next year in Tasmania. There was also a lot of compliments from the Woomeras on how well the event was run – thank you so much NSW!

And Tasmania Van Diemen Devils … you are the host state next year … home ground advantage will be coming to back you up at that time! We look forward to attending the Ninth National Bowling Arm Championships 2023 in Tasmania.

Thank you to all of the states for your participation and enthusiasm – it was wonderful hosting WA’s inaugural event as the Eighth National Bowling Arm Championships 2022. A HUGE thank you to Warnbro Bowling Club and their team of volunteers from the committee and kitchen to the greens and clubhouse, you are a credit to WA and have done a wonderful job!

DAY 4 – THURSDAY 8 SEPTEMBER

On day 4 the Victorians have once again taken the lead position … the question is “Can they keep it”? Having won ALL of the previous seven championships the other states are keen to shake things up with a new winner! Queensland is only 3 points behind Victoria and has Western Australian breathing down their necks in third spot by only one point! New South Wales is running 4th with 70 points and are playing WA today – so it will be interesting to see the results of that match! South Australia had a great day accruing 24 points and the only state here to earn an 8 Badge against Tasmania – interestingly, SA only scored in 4 ends; however, the final score in the game was 13 to 19 – amazing what a score of 8 can do to even things out!
