Throughout the past week, the World Transplant Games has hit Perth in a big way. The Games celebrate a second chance of life, demonstrating the success of transplant surgery and promoting the need to raise public awareness of organ and tissue donation.

The 24th World Transplant Games sees over 2,000 athletes from 60 countries around the world come together to compete in 17 different sports over 7 days, to celebrate life, through sport. The Sport of Lawn Bowls is included as one of the 17 sports.

Yesterday, Thursday 20th April, the event for Lawn Bowls concluded at Osborne Park Bowling Club with our very own North Perth member taking home a Gold Medal. Jamie Stewart had a double a lung transplant in 2007 and 16 years later has been rewarded with top honours at the World Transplant Games for Lawn Bowls.

A fantastic achievement and brilliant example of what the Transplant games stands for and aims to promote. Stewart’s achievement undoubtedly making Australia and North Perth proud!
