Bowls Blitz Is Back

by Pieter Harris on May 22, 2023

Bowls Blitz is back for 2023 and we are looking for player nominations to go into the draft for possible selection in a squad to compete with and against the 2023 Men’s and Women’s Open Team State Squads.

This will be the third running of the Blitz, with the previous two tournaments producing exciting bowls at the highest level. With a combination of singles, pairs, triples, and fours on each of the three playing days, it is a chance to play in front of the WA Open and Over 60’s selectors to put your case forward for possible inclusion in future squads and teams. A number of players can point directly to their performances in last season’s Blitz that put them on the radar for inclusion in the 2023 Open Team Squads.

There have been a few changes to the rules from previous seasons with the main changes being only six franchises instead of eight and ten players in a squad instead of eight. This season will also see all ten players compete each week in every round instead of only six of the eight players on the green at any one time as has been the case in previous seasons.

While we encourage everyone to put their names forward for possible inclusion in a squad, if you are an Over 60’s player pushing for a place in this year’s side to play a home Nationals Side Series at Joondalup, this is your opportunity to be in front of the selectors right before selection time.

The blitz will take place on

Sunday, July 2nd at Sorrento BC

Sunday, July 23rd at Joondalup BC

Sunday, July 30th at Sorrento BC

The State Selection Panel will also select a reserves pool from those who unfortunately do not make a final franchise side. These players will be called upon when players in franchises are unable to attend on any given playing day.

To nominate, send an email to Pieter Harris pieter@bowlswa.com.au with a contact number and your current club by Friday 2nd June 2023
