Stars shine on first day of the Bowls Blitz

by Clive Adams on July 5, 2023

The Professionals Stars struck first as the Bowls Blitz returned to the greens on the weekend, looking to give WA State Team hopefuls, and those wishing to push for future selection, the ideal opportunity to show their wares at Sorrento, the very venue that will host the Australian Sides Championships in October.

The Blitz adopts an end-based scoring system, with bonus points awarded for high scoring ends, and a crucial 10 points for rinks won.

The Stars enjoyed a solid first day, although a slip in the final round prevented the day from being perfect. Still the Stars hold an 11 point margin at the top of the table, over the second placed AFGRI Chargers, who stopped their run in the final match of the day.

Blake Nairn made a big return to WA going through undefeated for the Stars, while for the Chargers it was Cameron Harris and Denise Kelly surviving the day without a loss.

The GenesisCare Enforcers currently sit third, and remain well in touch courtesy of the a big final match win over the Dyenamic Cyclones, who otherwise had a solid day themselves. For the Enforcers, Daniel Trewhella and Lisa Smith emerged unscathed from the first day.

The Seniors Recreation Council Sharpshooters, the Liquor Traders Pirates and indeed the Cyclones will all be looking to push their cause when the Blitz Day 2 happens at Joondalup Bowling Club on July 23rd.
