WA Women shine on Day 1 of the Australian Sides Championships

by Pieter Harris on October 13, 2023

The Australian Sides Championships got underway today at the Sorrento Bowling Club in near-perfect conditions with two rounds completed.

The WA Women got off to a strong start by defeating New South Wales in round 1 and followed that up in the afternoon with a hard-fought win over Tasmania. This places our ladies second on the ladder with Victoria sitting on top due to more rink wins.

The rink of Kristina Krstic, Chris Ace-Watson, Lisa Brannan, and Lisa Smith led the way with 2 very good wins, which also places them on top of the best-performed rink ladder.

With games against the Northern Territory in the morning and South Australia in the afternoon, the WA ladders have a great opportunity to set themselves up for a tilt at the title on Sunday and Monday.

The WA Men had a slow start-up against New South Wales this morning and were unable to claim a rink against one of the favorites for the Championships. However, a spirited showing in the afternoon against Tasmania saw our boys claim a great aggregate win.

The rink of Cody Packer, Anthony Williams, David Downey, and Jack East led the way in the afternoon with a 13-shot win.

Both Northern Territory and South Australia are winless in the Men’s competition but will be hard to beat tomorrow as our boys look to move up the ladder to give themselves a chance at a gold medal.
