The Australian Sides Championships Concludes at Sorrento Bowling Club
The Australian Sides Championships concluded at the Sorrento Bowling Club today with Western Australia’s Men’s and Women’s teams doing WA proud.
In the final round of the Championships, the WA Women started slowly but came home strong to defeat the Australian Capital Territory 64-55. The win left WA fourth on the ladder with 4 wins and 3 losses. Victoria took the title with just one loss, with New South Wales finishing in second position on rink wins over Queensland who came third.
The rink of Kristina Krstic, Chris Ace-Watson, Lisa Brannan, and Lisa Smith had an outstanding week to finish second on the best-performed rink ladder with 6 wins and only 1 loss.
The WA Men had an outstanding last-round win over the Australian Capital Territory with a massive 83-32 aggregate victory. The win topped off a terrific week for our men as they finished the Championships in third position on the final ladder with 5 wins. The only two losses came against eventual winner New South Wales and runner-up Queensland.
The best-performing rink for the men was Blake Nairn, Clive Adams, Bill Brandsma, and Scott Walker with 4 wins but it was very much a team effort with the other two rinks contributing to winning multiple aggregates.
Congratulations to the Sorrento Bowling Clubs Nationals Organising Committee, the Sorrento Greenkeepers, and Grounds people, and all the Sorrento and surrounding Clubs volunteers on an amazing effort over the last 2 weeks.
