Fours glory goes on the line

Sunday marks State Fours finals day at Bassendean as eight teams remain in contention for the two titles across the Men’s and Women’s competitions.

Last week’s knockout rounds produced plenty of surprises, and leave us with a great mixture of experienced talent contrasted by those looking for their first State title.

In the Men’s Competition, the runners-up for the past two years, with a little tweak here and there, Justin Opie, Ashley Sharp, Troy Kinnane and Scott Walker feature against Matthew Mitchell, Nathan Jones, Miles Kemp and Scott O’Brien in what should be an enthralling match-up.

The other semi-final match-up sees the country flavored quartet of Shane Giudice-Nairn, Joel Leeson, Ben Leggett (metro) and Jon Trotter taking on Kyle McIlroy, Stewart Gosstray, Steve Cerff and Gavin Faulkner.

The Women’s event is perhaps even more interesting with Kristina Krstic teaming with Hailey Packer, Robyn O’Brien and Helen Heal to meet Kaye Blackwell, Rhonda Prosser, Lee Poletti and Kerry Andersen in the first semi-final – a match full of players with State titles and indeed higher honours.

In stark contrast, the second semi-final features players largely looking to make their mark for the very first time. Jane Lewis joins Deborah Povey, Judi Gittings and Janice Miles to take on Patricia Boardman, Lily Leach, Coral Smith and Nerrida Porteous.

Semi-final matchups get underway at 9.30am at Bassendean, with the big finals to follow.
