Dyenamic 2024-25 Men’s State Pairs Day 2 Results and Finals Preview
Sorrento plays host to the final day of the Dyenamic Sublimation Bowls WA Men’s State Pairs tomorrow as eight teams remain in contention for the title. Matches commence at 9.30am with quarter final action to start with, and eventually, at the end of the day, the crowning of State Pairs champions.
Of the quarter finalists, just three players remain that have tasted State Pairs success – Daniel Trewhella (three times, in 2015/16, 2012/13 and 2009/10), Shane Knott (2016/17) and Clive Adams (in 1999).
Here’s a look at the quarter finals match-ups for tomorrow, in draw order…
Clive Adams (Cambridge), Simon Alden (Bassendean) vs Justin Opie (South Perth), John Slavich (Doubleview)
This one should be a great matchup with both teams home in thrillers on day two. Adams and Alden defeated the defending title holders Russell Bates and Brad Ball, before progressing over Manning’s Sam Perica and Jason Titheradge in an extra end decider.
Opie and Slavich enjoyed two impressive wins – firstly against Doubleview’s Brad White and Gavin Faulkner, before eliminating 2022/23 champions Warren Holt and Mark Wunnenberg. Holt had a chance to get that match to an extra end, hitting a final bowl drive, but one Opie bowl remained and that was enough to see Opie and Slavich through.
Blake Butler (Manning), Miles Kemp (Manning) vs Anthony Einfeld (Mount Lawley), Adam Graham (Mount Lawley)
Butler and Kemp survived a close one in the first knockout round, winning 11-9 before recording a solid victory over Doubleview’s Charlie Slavich and Mount Lawley’s Corey Bessant. The 17-6 margin shows the pair are in fine form heading into the final day.
Mount Lawley is enjoying a stellar year, so no surprise to see two full Mounters combinations through to the final eight. The first here is Einfeld and Graham – the pair joined forces just a couple of years ago to claim a National Fours title, so big match bowls are not foreign to them. Two quite comfortable wins on day two leaves them up for the challenge in this one.
Dwayne Wooltorton (Kalamunda), Mark Potente (Kalamunda) vs Ben Leggett (Mount Lawley), Chris Leggett (Sorrento)
A family clash here, with Wooltorton and Potente comfortably up in their first knockout match, before being tested in the second against Gingin’s Steve Fewster and Steve Beckwith. 19-16 the scoreline seeing them through to the quarters.
The Leggetts have teamed together many times and often produce the goods. Another Mount Lawley rep here in Ben and a look at the results shows the pair eliminating perhaps the tournament favourites in Blake Nairn and Jack East in their first knockout round, after Nairn and East had progressed through the alignment round. Another win in a low scoring 13-7 affair sees the Leggett’s through to the quarters and a chance to potentially make some history.
Daniel Trewhella (Mount Lawley), Shane Knott (Mount Lawley) vs Chris Margin (North Beach), Jerome Clayton (North Beach)
If Nairn/East weren’t tournament favourites, then this Mounters’ combination were. Both previous champions and both in fine form, Trewhella and Knott survived a first knockout round battle against Safety Bay’s Chris Carruthers and Jim Hanafee 13-12 before getting over the line in their final two knockout rounds.
Margin and Clayton are the current over 60’s Mens Pairs champions so the combination clearly works. A single shot margin over Armadale’s Kevin McKay and Stewart Gosstray was perhaps the defining moment yesterday, keeping the dream alive for a unique double for the pairing.
