Age Defying 96 Year old Club Singles Winner
The recent January Jack Hi Magazine featured an impressive feat by Drew Gunson, who was 15 years of age, as she recently captured the Maylands Bowling Club Open Gender Club Singles title. In contrast, at the other end of the scale, Derwas Overheu recently claimed the Meadow Springs Club Championship Singles title showcasing one of the truly remarkable aspects of our sport.
Overheu became the championship winner at an astonishing 96 years old, demonstrating how vast the sport of Bowls is and how it truly is accessible for all.

President of Meadow Springs AFA Bowling Club Mike Lee gave an account of the event and an insight into the character of Mr Overheu;
“One of the extraordinary stories in our Club and perhaps entire Bowling world is about a very special, inspiring member who won (our) Club Championship Men’s “Singles” this year. Mr. Derwas “Der” Overheu, who also ended the prestigious “Singles” Championship for Club President Mike Lee’s seventh year in a row. Der is not only the “Singles” Championship winner, but also an age defying 96-yr old bowler with uncanny and great personality, namely we call him Mr. Youngster, among competitive bowlers in our Bowling Communities. He is not only participating in most of our Bowling competitions, but indeed inspiring and making us all humble. I, on behalf of our Club members, wish him good health and a long life!“
Congratulations Derwas, and perhaps we might see him competing in the Champion of Club Champions Singles event next month, with entries set to open by the end of the week.
