200-gamer McIlroy calls time on stellar career
Bowls WA wishes to advise that Kyle McIlroy, a current member of the Open Men’s State Squad, has advised of his retirement from State representation following a brilliant career spanning over more than two decades. Kyle is pursuing other interests and has advised he can no longer dedicate the time required to represent the State at his very best.
Kyle started in our great sport as a very young man at Wanneroo in the late 1980’s. Over 30 years later, at Ettalong Bowling Club in NSW, he played his 200th game for Western Australia, becoming just the tenth player in WA history to record this honour. Remarkably Kyle has played in WA sides alongside all but two of the other nine players, with Geoff Oakley and Steve Srhoy having ended their amazing representative careers just before Kyle’s started.

Kyle, affectionately known as “Acka”, has been a very proud representative of WA, with his precise draw shot being the hallmark of his game. In his later years of representation, his experience and knowledge of the game were crucial, and he often played a key role in preparing the team off the green as much as on it.
Thank you Kyle for your dedication, commitment and for all the close bowls. We are sure we will still see Kyle competing around the place, just no longer in the mighty black and gold.
