by Pieter Harris on May 16, 2025

The Men’s Open and Over 60’s State Teams have been selected for the National Side Series at the Devonport Country Club, Tasmania.

While there are no debutants named in the WA Open Team this year, two players have been recalled after a number of years since their debut.

Kevin McKay last played in 2019, while Cameron Harris played in 2022. Both have been named in the same rink with Kevin taking the Skip position and Cameron fitting in as the second. David Downey moves from a second last season to play third for Kevin while Bill Brandsma moves from second into lead providing plenty of experience for his younger teammates.

Blake Nairn has been WA’s most successful Skip for the last two years and will again take control of a rink He has retained the 2024 Alan Eddie/Rod Wishart best player winner, Scott Walker as his lead. Warren Holt moves into the thirds position for Blake and Jack East will provide plenty of class in the seconds position.

Anthony Williams will again Skip for his state and will have Doubleview clubmate Brad White as his third. State Singles winner, Ben Leggett will play second, after leading in his debut last year, and the 247 game veteran Clive Adams will set the team up in the leads position.

The WA State Over 60’s Team has one debutant and a number of players who have earnt recalls.

Ross Bresland has recently qualified for the team and was quickly installed as a Skip. Brad King has played the last two Nationals and will play as Ross’s third. After winning the Over 60’s State Singles, Neville Stevens has been recalled into the leads position.

Gary Caffell returns to the team after an outstanding 2024-25 season. With a big country week and an outstanding country versus metro performance, Gary showed he was back to his best. Aj Heal returns as Gary’s third after not being available due to travel last year.
