2025 National Volunteer Week

by Denise McMillan on May 30, 2025

National Volunteer Week (NVW) is Australia’s largest annual celebration of volunteers and celebrates their significant contribution to communities across the country.  Bowls WA was honored to celebrate this wonderful event in conjunction with Vision Australia Radio, Blind Sports WA, and Vision Impaired & Blind Bowlers WA (VIBBWA) at Cambridge Bowling Club.

It is through Volunteering WA and Lotterywest that Vision Australia Radio obtained a grant to celebrate their volunteers, and those volunteers associated with other vision oriented sports groups – we really are one big community!

The 2025 National Volunteer Week theme ‘Connecting Communities’ is all about celebrating the power of volunteering in bringing people together. National Volunteer Week is Australia’s largest annual celebration of volunteering with thousands of events and activities held across the country during 19 – 25 May 2025 (#NVW2025).

#NVW2025 is a celebration of our power to drive change and ensure volunteering is inclusive of all members of the Australian community. Volunteering creates lasting relationships that enrich lives and strengthen communities.

Vision Australia

Vision Australia are Australia’s leading provider of individualised services, technology, and resources for people with blindness and low vision. Our specialists in therapy, mobility, and daily living offer expert care and support.

Specifically, the Vision Australia Radio Network incorporates ten community radio stations across Victoria, southern New South Wales, Adelaide and Perth. There are also five digital radio services available in the three metropolitan areas as VAR, VA Radio and IRIS.

Volunteering WA

Volunteering WA is the peak body for volunteering in Western Australia, working across community, government, corporate and education organisation’s to provide leadership, advancement and the celebration of volunteering.

Lotterywest

Lotterywest is unique – it is the only lottery in Australia, and one of the few in the world, where the profits are returned back to the local community. Lotterywest’s support for the community is possible only because of the small businesses and players that support the purchase of Lotterywest games. When you play Lotterywest games the money stays in WA via grants, prizes and employment opportunities for locals.
