Yunderup Inclusive Pairs WRAP
South Yunderup All Abilities Pairs Results
Last Saturday 19th September forty-four bowlers with a disability convened at Yunderup Sport & Recreation Club to participate in the inaugural All Abilities Pairs competition. Weather was ‘blustery’ to put it mildly, with many players bundled up in jackets and scarfs, but the overall comrade between hosts, players, visitors, and volunteers was phenomenal.
Yunderup Sport & Recreation Club has the distinction of being the first WA club, outside of Kardinya, to host a 100% Inclusive to Disabilities Bowls Tournament – specifically Pairs format and specifically a mixed bag of disabilities bowling together and against each other!
Not only was the mixing of different disabilities (deaf, intellectual, physical, vision impaired) into teams a different scenario, but this was also no ordinary day of Pairs games, instead the format was three games of different format pairs, all games timed to 90 minutes or 12 ends, starting with 3-Bowl Pairs, continuing with 2-4-2 Pairs prior to lunch, and ending the day with 2-Bowl Pairs.
Sponsor Mercer Bryant from firstnational Real Estate had every reason to be smiling with the fantastic turnout and many pledges to ‘return’ to next year’s event. Special thanks to Colin Earle who spearheaded this event and the wonderful Committee and Volunteers from the Yunderup Club – a fantastic group of people with hearts of gold.
