Country Representative History

The Men’s Inter Zone Round Robin (IZRR) and Inter League Round Robins (ILRR) were first mentioned in the Bowls WA archives at an Executive meeting of the Royal Western Australian Bowling Association (Men’s Association) in April 1974 with the State Selectors looking to seek a way of being able to view promising Country bowlers from the various clubs and leagues around Western Australia.

A letter was written to all Leagues seeking feedback of which it was immediately positive and the very next year these competitions commenced within a number of Zones with sponsors and support of the players. The Countryman trophy played between a selected Country team and the State Side was also introduced providing a new pinnacle of achievement for Country bowlers.

It wasn’t long after this that the Ladies Association followed suit and introduced a fours competition along exactly the same lines. The Ladies however went one step further introducing an additional Pairs competition in the early 1990’s both of which are still strongly supported today.
