Round in Review rd 16

by admin on February 22, 2016

BCiB Metro Pennants A critical round of pennants this week as the women had their last opportunity to collect regular season points while the men had to lock in their sides for the rest of the season. Some may be left wishing they had done things a little different with some of the weekend’s results.
The first half century of 2016 appeared on Saturday when Bassendean’s 6th Division White rink of Allan Simons, Donald Weser, Robert Sheppard and Michael Hirst dominated their game to win 56-7. The win is also the competitions largest for the week and at 49 shots will go close for the biggest win of the year. The win was a major part of Bassendean’s division high aggregate win over Roleystone which finished with a score line of 88-21.
The largest aggregate win of round 16 came from 4th Division Blue where Wanneroo defeated Cambridge by 78 shots. Every rink won by double digits with the largest being a 36-9 win by the rink skippered by Victor Street. The 119-41 win may prove to be a crucial one with the finals race being very tight, so much so that the percentage boost Wanneroo received could come into play.
The biggest rink winners in the final round women’s Saturday pennants are Janis Lawrence, Wendy Bows, Jennie Townsend and Janis Collisson from Valley. Their win for Valley’s 3rd Pink was part of a round high 38 shot aggregate victory. Delys Fuller’s rink were winners 23-13 to make the final score 55-17. The win was a good way to finish off the season for the side on a positive note.
The heavyweight clash in Premier League between Cambridge and Bassendean turned out to be a family affair on one rink. In the game between Daniel Patterson and Justin Opie as both skippers were drawn to play against their brother. Daniel’s brother and former teammate Steve led for the Bassendean side whilst Justin’s brother David played third for the Knights. The winners of the game were each set of parents who could feel happy for both sons as the game was a draw.
