Denison & Geraldton successful in BBL Ladies Pennants.
The Batavia Bowling League Pennant 2016 season resulted in the first division Denison Ladies (pictured above) being successful in defending the title they won last season.
Played at the Geraldton Bowling Club on a magnificent evenly paced green against the local side of Geraldton Gold the final result came down to a cliff hanger last end. With two rinks finished, Denison held a crucial three shot lead but the remaining Geraldton team was holding four shots. A nervous skipper for Denison, Di Reudavey’s first bowl was wide. At this stage every player and spectator had eyes on a very, very nervous Di, who then composed herself and sent her last bowl with precision accuracy to reduce Geraldton’s shots up and gave the Denison side an aggregate two shot victory. Much jubilation was shown on the green by the winners however the Geraldton Ladies were most gracious in being runner up and praised the Denison side for their win. But as we all know team events rely on more than one person and the two other skippers, Jackie Bavcevich and Di Hobbs had rallied their teams to have wins over their opponents.
The second division was also played with Denison meeting Geraldton Gold. This also ran down to the last ends, with Geraldton reversing the situation and being the 2016 winners. Apart from the high quality of bowls that were played, a most pleasing sight was the number of spectators, at times very vocal, that came and supported all finalists. The attendance of the followers added greatly to the atmosphere on the day of two worthy finals.
